Standard carbon steel and even many stainless grades reach their limits in highly corrosive, high-temperature, or chemically aggressive environments. That is when projects turn to specialty alloys such as Hastelloy, Inconel, Monel, duplex stainless, and titanium.
Wilsons Industrial Fabrication works with these materials when the application requires them. We understand the differences in weldability, filler metal selection, heat input sensitivity, and contamination risk that separate successful specialty alloy work from expensive scrap.
Alloys We Commonly Work With
Hastelloy C-276
Excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive media. Common in chemical processing, pollution control, and sour service.
Hastelloy C-22
Broader corrosion resistance than C-276 in many oxidizing environments. Used for critical process equipment.
Inconel 625
High strength and outstanding corrosion resistance. Frequent choice for marine, aerospace-derived, and high-temperature applications.
Inconel 718
Precipitation-hardened nickel alloy known for high strength at elevated temperatures. Requires careful procedure control.
Monel 400
Nickel-copper alloy with excellent resistance to seawater and many acids. Long history in marine and chemical service.
Duplex & Super Duplex
2205 and higher grades combining high strength with good chloride resistance. Common in offshore and desalination work.
Why Specialty Alloy Work Is Different
These materials are expensive and less forgiving than carbon steel. Successful fabrication depends on:
- Correct filler metal matching the base alloy and service conditions
- Controlled heat input to preserve corrosion resistance and mechanical properties
- Thorough cleaning before and between passes to avoid iron contamination or other impurities
- Proper joint design and fit-up
- Documented procedures (WPS) and material traceability when required by the customer or code
We approach specialty alloy projects with the same engineering mindset used on the rest of our work: clear communication, realistic assessment of capability, and honest documentation.
Typical Applications on the Gulf Coast
- Chemical and process industry equipment
- Marine and offshore components exposed to seawater
- Pollution control and scrubber systems
- Heat exchangers and high-temperature piping
- Custom fabrications requiring long-term corrosion resistance
